Storm King Mountain looms above the Hudson River like a fortress, dominating the rugged river gorge on the west. Its glowering eastern end rises sheer from the river to more than 1,300 feet and is the dominating feature of Storm King State Park. It offers unsurpassed views of the Catskills and the Hudson Valley.

Storm King State Park

Storm King is more than just a serene mountain. Its name is associated with a watershed court case that became the basis for environmental law in the United States. Storm King Ruins
Howdy CeeGee! I just hiked SKM last weekend via a lovely MeetUp (Hudson Valley History Hikers). The leader posted this info about the hike: In the early 1900's a great estate was built on the north side of Storm King Mt in Cornwall. It was called Upalong. We'll start across a pretty field that was once farmed, and then have a short, but steep ascent to Upalong, where we'll visit it's extensive remains. During the hike he revealed that Upalong was built by the Pagenstecher family and was later destroyed by fire. I found a page on www.cornwall-on-hudson.com about the family but when I try to include the entire link my reply gets labeled as span and gets blocked. Weird.  Hope this helps! Cheers, Casey

Estate ruins
I was up at Storm King this past Sunday May 15, 2016. Using your West Hudson Trails map I saw that there were ruins on an unmarked trail just off the Bluebird Trail. I hiked over to them and the ruins of an estate were sprawled out there in the woods. They were sizable, which leads me to believe that at one time it was quite a building. I did extensive research online and can't find any information about any ruins there besides Spy Rock House. Does anyone know the origins of the aforementioned ruins? I would appreciate any info on this.   I have some images of the ruins I am talking about here: https://weekendwanderer2016.wordpress.com/2016/05/16/storm-king-mountain/
